Interesting Links for November 24, 2008

As we enter into this week of Thanksgiving, i was struck by this article on the Top 10 Poorest Countries. While I complain about not having this or that… while I stuff my face with a feast on Thursday… millions of people around the world are literally starving. I must admit there will be a tinge of guilt in my heart this week.

Black Friday and Cyber Monday are coming up. We aren’t planning to spend too much money (overall) this holiday season no matter what is on sale. However, we do need to replace my wife’s laptop and might be up at the crack of dawn on Friday to get to Best Buy to get one of the early bird deals. Over at Fat Wallet a user has created an all encompasing Black Friday Excel spreadsheet that lets you filter through all of the deals. This is amazing tool. (There’s also a Google Docs version as well if you need to pull it up while you are out and about.)

What about you? Are you planning to hit the stores before the sun comes up on Friday?

I have never shopped on Black Friday and I never intend to. It seems entirely too stressful.

Always try to do it online if you can, even adding shipping to save the horrible behaviour at the stores would be worth it to me.

The netbooks look interesting to me, and they are as low as $150 I think.

@Ashley: Same here, I’ve never been one to get up and drive around with the mass chaos going on. However, this year we do have a need to take care of and I think the crowds won’t be quite as bad as normal.

@Philip: Totally. If I knew I could get some of the same deals online then I definitely would. Netbooks intrigue me, but she wants and really needs a 15.4″ screen.

I just talked to my husband and he said he’s going out. I don’t know what deal is tempting him so much. But it must be killer because he HATES crowds.

I offered to stay home with the kids. 🙂

I have worked for a large retailer on several Black Fridays and once you’ve done that, being on the consumer side of it is a piece of cake!
