My 2009 Blogging Goals

by Kevin on January 7, 2009

This post may be completely uninteresting to many of you out there. Feel free to pass on by. I’m hoping some of you will read this and find ways to help me reach my own goals.

Last year was a complete flop in terms of blogging goals. Why? I was dumb. I didn’t set true blogging goals for myself. Although at some point I mentioned wanting to get to 1,500 subscriber, the goal wasn’t S.M.A.R.T.

An entire year of blogging without goals led to lukewarm results. I ended 2008 with almost 8,000 monthly visitors and 571 RSS and e-mail subscribers. A mildly successful first year of blogging. Over the past year, 95,000 visitors have come to the site. You could almost fill all of Neyland Stadium if everyone showed up all at the same time.

As I read other bloggers’ 2009 goals I was encouraged to setup my own goals both personal, financial, and blogging. Every blogger wishes he or she was more successful in their first year and I am no different. I was really hoping to be at at least 12,000-15,000 visitors per month and 1,000 subscribers overall. Again, goals weren’t set and actions stepped weren’t identified to help me get there. I’ll need to change that up in 2009 to reach my new goals.

With each goal I am going to list my goal and then a stretch goal. A stretch goal is just that — something you would really have to stretch to hit.

Kevin’s 2009 Blogging Goals:

  • More than double blog traffic to 20,000 visitors per month.
  • More than double subscribers to 1,500.
  • Increase blog income dramatically.

Hey good luck! I think your goals are totally reasonable and I have no doubt that you will achieve them!

I’d love tips on how to improve my readership. I only got serious this year about blogging before it was more casual.

I agree that it’s terribly difficult to make goals for the first year of blogging. I am attempting to do that as well, however, I think I’m going to stay away from quantitative goals. I just don’t know what to expect.
