No Debt Plan is One Year Old

It’s my blogging birthday!

Well technically, as of today, No Debt Plan is one year and two days old.

I started No Debt Plan on January 18, 2008. As I have written before, I started blogging because I love helping people with financial problems. I tend to help all of my friends and co-workers with their questions and issues. I figured I had something to share with the world, something I was passionate about.

Originally I was cautious. I had tried blogging in the past and failed miserably. In the past my passion for whatever I was writing simply waned and I gave up. I was determined not to let this happen with my new personal finance blog. I had an internal goal of posting one article per day. I didn’t hit that exactly — there were days when nothing was posted, but I made up for it with days of two or three posts.

In the first year I posted 438 articles. I was lucky enough to be able to have some guest posts on Get Rich Slowly, and some posts got popular with social media sites like Reddit and Stumble Upon.

Traffic consistently grew and this blog should see 10,000 unique visitors this month. 600 or so people now subscribe to No Debt Plan. I’m feeling good about where this is headed.

Along the way I discovered I would love to blog full time. I still feel like I have no idea what I’m doing. I tend to write on topics in bursts… not exactly in a specific series format, but whatever tends to strike my fancy that day or week. I’m not sure if my readers enjoy this style or not, but I’m glad I have as many as I do sticking around.

In regards to doing this full time I have recently increased the income I am bringing home from blogging. It is no where near replacing the income from my job, but it is a nice little drop in the bucket. If I could get to bringing home one third of my current income that would be absolutely amazing.

I wrote about my blogging goals for 2009 earlier this month. A quick recap:

  • More than double unique visitor traffic to over 20,000
  • More than double subscribers to 1,500
  • Increase blog income dramatically

I had also mentioned in a separate post that if I ever average 10,000 RSS / e-mail subscribers in a month, I’ll do what my wife wants and buzz my hair off.

So thanks. If you’re reading this you are helping me achieve my goals. If I didn’t have readers there wouldn’t be much point in blogging. So thanks for stopping by, and thanks for sticking around.

Congratulations on one year. I personally enjoy the topic bursting method as I read numerous blogs so I don’t even notice that there isn’t a special format or sequence. Isn’t that the point of a blog? Whatever you want to write about?

Congratulations 1 year is a big mile stone I would say that 98% of bloggers don’t make it this long. You have made it for a reason, keep it going!
