Experian Dropping from myFico

by Kevin on February 12, 2009

An odd bit of news to share with you from the credit report side of things.

I’ve told you in the past that you can get your free credit report (no credit scores) at AnnualCreditReport.com.

But there may be times where you just need to get that list of credit scores from all three bureaus. Perhaps you are about to start shopping for a mortgage and a higher score equates to a lower interest rate. Perhaps you are just flat out curious like me. If that’s the case you need your Fico Scores/Reports.

You can get a credit score from each of the bureaus individually. But there’s a catch — it isn’t your real credit score. It’s an arbitrary score unique to that credit bureau. In short, it is completely useless as you shop around with lenders.

Now for the weird credit report news

So what’s so odd? Starting tomorrow, Friday the 13th of February, Experian is going to stop allowing myFico to sell Experian credit scores and reports. According to the FAQ (available off of the myFico home page at the top), this leaves consumers without an option in trying to get their true Experian credit score.

Does this sound odd to anyone else? Experian is allowed to pull their credit scores from everyone so that you can’t get it — not even from Experian?

Regardless of why it is happening, you have until tomorrow to get your official Experian credit score.

There are multiple ways you can get your scores from myFico:

  • Fico Standard – $15.95 and let’s you choose one credit score and report from one bureau
  • Fico Complete – $47.85 for all three reports and scores
  • Suze Orzman has a kit for $49.95
  • Two credit monitoring tools — good options if you are trying to get a certain score before applying for a mortgage

You’ve got a bunch of options. They aren’t free. But if you need to get that report, especially an Experian report, get to myFico today or tomorrow. If you don’t have to have them immediately, I would use AnnualCreditReport.com.
