I did a bit of blog housekeeping last night and switched up the About page. The previous version only had about 1 paragraph and it was really basic. I don’t think the current version is flat out amazing, but it is definitely an improvement. Can you visit it and let me know what you think? Do you want to see a photo? What other information should I put on there?
Some interesting articles I have come across recently:
- Finance 4 Nerds analyzes why a 30-year mortgage is the standard option for most households in America. The included graph really makes the point easy to understand. Well done.
- The Carnival of Personal Finance is up at Four Pillars.
The following two articles are about the economy, the financial crisis, and the bailout. Both of these leave me with a bad feeling deep down in my gut. Is America, for lack of a better word, screwed? I’m not knowledgeable enough to tell you, but it’s a scary picture that is painted for us.
- The Big Takeover by Rolling Stone is a bit long at 8 pages, but well worth the read. Being Rolling Stone it uses some adult language so don’t read it in front of your children.
- Money Morning goes on to explain what a credit default swap is and how it is likely the worst financial product ever developed.
Thanks for stopping by and enjoy your Sunday. (And if you could stop by the About page and give me some feedback, that would be greatly appreciated!)

I like the new “About” page, but I feel like it needs to be tightened up some. I think you could also probably get rid of the “What I Believe” section – it’s sort of just a lengthy restatement of blogging goals, plus I’m not sure it leads to the right focus – it sets up your target reader as young and really inexperienced, although I don’t think that’s what’s intended.
Off-topic, but having the text box right up top with the StumbleUpon, etc is pretty distracting. I like the idea of welcoming people, but I feel like the box might be getting in the way more than helping.
Definitely add an image. Photo is good – or just some images that resonate. It’s a bit text heavy (but I think it reads as authentic). I also think the previous commenter is on to something … the tone is a little too ‘excuse me’. Be bold.
It’s always nice to get to know the authors of the blogs I read regularly. Thanks for the update!
