March was the best month ever here at nodebtplan.net. 14,000 people came by. That’s ridiculously huge for my little blogging world. On top of that I recently hit 800 subscribers (8% of my overall 10,000 subscriber goal).
Those numbers make me a happy blogger.
In addition to this, by May 1st this blog will be carried by a new theme called Thesis.
And my birthday is April 9th. ![]()
In celebration of all of this I’m going to give away some personal finance prizes over the coming weeks and months.
To be eligible to win one of these prizes, all you have to do is:
- follow @nodebtplan on Twitter
- Simply tweet “Just entered to win a Flip MinoHD/iPod Touch and more. Just follow @nodebtplan and retweet. http://is.gd/rbI1″
- You can also subscribe to my RSS feed to get future blog updates and catch some of my money saving articles, but it won’t help you out in the contest.

The Prizes
There will be two tiers of prizes.
I’ll give out the prizes in the first tier no matter what happens. For the second tier (your choice of a Flip Video MinoHD or Apple iPod touch 8 GB) my Twitter followers must be above 1,400 at the end of the contest. I’m currently at 472. Surely you know 1,000 people that would like to win, right? The more you promote the contest the better the chances are that I give away the gear.
Here’s what you can win:
Tier One:
- one of 5 one-month subscriptions to Ramit Sethi’s Scrooge Strategy. Not familiar with the Scrooge Strategy? Here’s some info straight from the website:
The Scrooge Strategy is a subscription service for one savings tip per week. That’s it — it’s very simple. It’s one tip per week that you promise to commit to use and implement. I [Ramit] guarantee that if you join The Scrooge Strategy, you’ll save more than the cost of the program — every month.
Utilizing a similar strategy I have recently saved $321 per year by making a handful of phone calls to only two of my service providers.
In essence the Scrooge Strategy is all about big wins — potentially fewer steps that still significantly impact your bottom line rather than many small steps that incrementally chip away at your money problems.
Tier Two:
- your choice of a Flip Video MinoHD or Apple iPod touch 8 GB
Information About Winning
The contest will run through 11:59pm on May 7th. On May 8th I will tally all of the results from Twitter and come up with a total number of entries. I’ll then randomly select winners. I’ll give the accounts away first, then put all the entries back into the pot to win their choice of a Flip Video MinoHD or Apple iPod touch 8 GB.
To win you must live in an area where winning a contest like this isn’t illegal. To win the MinoHD or iPod you must live in an area that Amazon ships to at a reasonable cost.
To win a Scrooge Strategy account, you must sign up on your own and e-mail the receipt/invoice that is generated. I’ll then PayPal your first month’s cost back to you. There isn’t a way to give an account as a gift (Hey Ramit — there’s an idea) so this is the easiest way I could think of. There is no affiliate link so I’m not making money off of this, I just think it is a really cool program. (And if you don’t like it after the first month it is up to you to cancel.)
I’ll also need you to respond within 72 hours of me announcing on Twitter that you’ve won something or I’ll have to give it to someone else.
Good luck and thanks for stopping by!

Thanks for running a contest! I plan to enter.
Thanks,
Nate
So when we get you to 1400 followers you’re going to tell them to follow us as well right?
Great contest idea, IDK which I’d like better, the Flip or iPod. I have an iPhone but I could use the touch to hack. Decisions, decisions.
Good luck with the contest! Nice prizes.
Awesome contest. And I can’t wait to see what your theme will be like (been thinking about a new theme myself).
I just twittered away my friend! good luck to ya
I’m in! just tweeted, although i was already following you!
Thanks for all the Tweet-love, everyone. Only 890 more followers to go!
Hi, Kevin~
I know you heart the feedback, so feedback I have – I am kind of bummed about the contest, I can’t handle any more Twittermania and I’m not super excited about winning a prize that I’d have to remember to cancel after a month. Although I suppose I would be excited about the Touch, so there’s that.
That said, yes yes yes I know I can just not enter and who cares, and it’s nice of you to have a contest at all, and yes in return you should be able to use the content to grow your blog as you like. All caveats duly noted!!

I do <3 the feedback
I’m open to running different types of contests in the future. Ideally I want to increase my readership and I haven’t done much with Twitter… so I’m giving the Twitter folks so love this time around.
In regards to the prizes, I think Scrooge Strategy is really interesting. Yea, you would need to cancel it, but what if the first month saved you $100 per year? You might consider hanging on for the second month and potentially save more money. There is a risk there of course, but it’s an option.
I used to subscribe to Ramit’s blog, when he was doing the 30 day challenge, and since I didn’t save anything as a result of the challenge I ended up thinking I had hit most of the big dollar areas and probably wouldn’t benefit much from the premium tips. But I have been wrong before (and probably will be again) – it could well be worth a shot. I’m rethinking
Yeah for contests!
You have sucked me in with your contest…and inspired me with your great content!
I have a good feeling about this…sorry chaps, I think I’m gonna win!
