Also, if for some reason one of the cars died sooner than expected (before they could re-save the money if they chose to put what they have toward the mortgage) they would be in a tough spot when trying to buy a new car. From what I've heard from car dealers, it's tough to get financing when you have little to no money down. This was a nice, thorough analysis.
