I have also (politely) asked to speak with a manager, and to speak with someone in the retentions department. Usually, that department (and I'm saying this from experience with my cable bill; YMMV with the credit card) has access to discounts that your typical front-line CSR does not have.

This isn’t APR-specific, but if I’m calling any company to negotiate a price (eg, my cable bill), I just politely hang up and call 15 minutes later if they won’t negotiate with me. But we cannot avoid the thing that one can get some mental override when in debt.

I agree. When in debt, always use your common sense. Ironically, the one way they DID offer to be flexible is if I stopped paying altogether, which of course I don't want to do!
Thanks in advance

I’ve tried negotiating my APR and had no luck.
