Over 1,000 MyPoints

Categories: Free Money, MyPoints

I’m up to 1,125 points over at MyPoints.com. Once my wife’s account gets over 250 points, I should get a huge 1,250 point bonus. There was a referral push during March that we participated in.

I’m rather proud at how fast I’ve been able to get to over 1,000 points. I just started using My Points at the end of February. That’s about a month and a half of membership.

Now I have to decide — do I take a lower payout, or wait even longer to get a larger gift card? Either way it’s nice to know I’m earning free gift cards for very little work! I’ll probably wait for the better payout even though it will take forever to get to that point.

MyPoints lets you earn points that you can redeem for gift cards. Not a bad deal to click on a daily e-mail. Want a referral? Leave a comment and I’ll e-mail you one.

Refer A Friend using Revolution Money Exchange

I saw a post by Patrick over at Cash Money Life explaining the Revolution Money Exchange. Essentially it is a new service that is targeting PayPal users. With RME, you can send and receive money for no fee. There are some fees if you do a check withdrawal or something like that, but primarily it is fee-free.

If you sign up before April 15th, you’ll get a $25 bonus. I’ll earn a $10 bonus.

To sweeten the deal over the other bloggers you might see out there, I’ll send some of that bonus money on top of it once I receive it. Since I’ll get $10, I’ll give you anywhere from $1 to 9 extra. I’ll use random.org, a random number generator, to come up with how much extra money you’ll earn.

Who wants free money? I know you do. Give it a try: Revolution Money Exchange. Seriously. It’s free money. No strings attached. And it may end up being bigger than PayPal. $25 + a little extra coming from me.

I’m Giving Away $479 to 50 People

So we haven’t fully funded our Roth IRAs, but I’m giving away more than $23,000. That makes sense, right?

Well, thanks to ING Direct — it’s true! If you sign up with ING Direct through my referral, we both win. Here’s how I did the math.

  • Your Initial Deposit: $250
  • Bonus Deposit from ING (for depositing $250+): $25
  • Total Principle: $275
  • Assumed Interest Rate: 3.25% (current savings rate is 3.4%)

If you leave that $275 in the account without adding any money to it, in 30 years the account will have $729.04 in it. Take away your original principle of $250, and you’ve earned $479.

This assumes:

  • interest rates won’t go back up to the 4%+ we’ve enjoyed until the recent federal reserve cuts
  • you don’t add any additional principle; if you did, it would be obviously worth much more
  • you don’t pay taxes on the interest earned each year (which is untrue, I’m just ignoring it for simplicity)

And just for disclosure sake: I’ll earn a $10 bonus if you sign up.

Setting up an account with ING is a great first step. ING makes it easy to setup multiple accounts so you can save for specific goals. Transferring money is easy. Customer service is great. I can’t say enough about ING. If you’re interested, just leave a comment with your e-mail address!
