Write for No Debt Plan

January 2008 was the month I started No Debt Plan. I started with a basic theme, no readers or visitors, and no experience. Over time I have been lucky enough to slowly grow this site to over 11,000 unique visitors each month. More than 1,000 people are subscribed via RSS or e-mail updates, and more than 900 are following me on Twitter (@nodebtplan).

How did I get from here to there? I did what you are supposed to do: I worked hard and wrote consistently.

But there’s another piece to the puzzle. I reached out to bloggers with sites much larger than mine and offered quality guest posts.

Why Bloggers Love Guest Posts

  • It’s a “day off” to focus on other blogging activities or get ahead/caught up on writing posts. It is also a change of pace for my audience — they get to see your unique perspective.
  • We were all once new to blogging and trying to build our own personal brand/audience. Someone gave us our first shot to guest post for them. It’s only fair to return the favor!

The Benefits of Guest Posting for No Debt Plan

  • Guest posting is an opportunity to practice your writing skills and get constructive feedback from someone that has probably been blogging longer than you have.
  • Of course the main draw is getting to put your best foot forward on a blog that is larger than yours or has a different community than you own. It’s an opportunity to receive feedback from a larger audience, grow your portfolio, and acquire new readers.

Guest Post Guidelines for No Debt Plan

I love guest posts that are well written and require little or no editing. If I have to spend 20 minutes editing your post… that’s time I could have spent writing my own content. It ends up being a wash.

Please read through and use these guidelines for guest posting:

  • Articles must be your own original content.
  • Articles are expected to be well-written (good flow, proper headers, no run-on sentences) and should not have been previously published elsewhere.
  • Articles should be related to personal finance or entrepreneurship. A few example topics: credit card debt, mortgage repayment or acceleration, debt snowballs, investing, retirement. (Please e-mail me with proposed topics if in doubt.)
  • Please include an introduction to you and your blog.  This will be shown at the top of the article and can include 1 link back to your site and 1 link to your RSS feed.
  • Feel free to link back to your own blog with 2 or 3 links. Do not use this as an opportunity to stuff keywords all over the guest post.
  • Taking initiative and linking back to some of my own articles on the same topic will earn you higher marks in my book, but are not required.
  • I retain full editorial and approval rights, including removing and/or substituting links.
  • No affiliate links. Period.
  • If you use an image in your post it must either be your original work, work that is in the public domain, or works that allow for derivative works. (Flickr is a great place to find images that can be used with attribution.)
  • Please send articles in html format with proper headers, titles, links, etc. (An attached document in .txt format usually works best.)

Interested? Reach Out to Me

Drop me a line on the contact page. Please contact me first to discuss the topic you are interested in writing on. I would hate for you to go through all the effort of writing a post for my audience only to have me tell you I don’t think it is a good fit.

I look forward to working with you!
